Shared Health Information Framework and Terminology (SHIFT)

Shared Health Information Framework and Terminology (SHIFT) is a collaborative initiative designed to standardise health information exchange and terminology across systems, organisations, and communities. Our goal is to create a unified language for healthcare that improves communication, enhances patient outcomes, and supports innovation.

What is SHIFT?

SHIFT stands for Shared Health Information Framework and Terminology. It provides:
  • Consistency in health data and terminology.
  • Interoperability between healthcare systems and providers.
  • Clarity for patients, clinicians, and policymakers.

Why SHIFT Matters

Key Features

  • Healthcare is complex, and fragmented information can lead to errors, inefficiencies, and poor patient experiences. SHIFT addresses these challenges by:
  • Reducing duplication of data.
  • Improving accuracy in clinical documentation.
  • Supporting person-centred care through shared understanding.
Standardised Terminology: A common language for health professionals.
  • Framework for Integration: Guidelines for connecting systems and sharing data securely.
  • Scalable Design: Adaptable for local, regional, and national health networks.

Benefits

  • For Patients: Better communication and safer care.
  • For Providers: Streamlined workflows and reduced administrative burden.
  • For Organisations: Improved compliance and data-driven decision-making.
